The Dakty Full-Size In-Display Fingerprint
scans Fingerprints as well as and Documents

The new patented technology of the  full-size in-screen fingerprint scanner of Dakty is an optical full screen fingerprint scanner. It is based on a small modification of the actual displays. The new display improves the handheld devices and the use of computers, offering many features missing on the currently available displays on the market:

  • Biometric fingerprint scan
  • Direct document scanning
  • Optical high-resolution multi-touch-screen ability
  • No fragile glass needed
  • Color calibrated scanning
  • Direct high security communication
  • Individual auto calibration avoids aging of OLEDs
  • Health check
  • Technologies used are available today
  • Cheaper mass production

The features have a huge impact on the usability of devices with displays. A short description of each one will spark ideas of possibilities and benefits. The descriptions are kept short in order to let the reader imagine other related benefits.

Biometric fingerprint scanning

Biometric fingerprint scanningThe display has the unique feature capturing fingerprints, which is very useful and could change the way computers are used. The fingerprints can be scanned on the entire surface of the display. This enables scanning of up to 4 fingers at once, with a security level up to almost 100%. Furthermore, the fingerprint can be scanned with each start of an application. The application would then be started with the specific permissions of the user. This is not only useful for handheld devices, but especially for large displays used in teams. Each user can start applications with his own permissions, thus the permissions to use the application would be a sum of the permissions of the concurrent users. The way of using computers in teams while having an easy access to own permissions could revolutionize working in teams. The huge benefit of using the display with integrated fingerprint in mobile devices is the direct possibility of combining PIN codes with fingerprints, e.g. you push the first character with the index finger, the second with the ring finger and the third with the index finger of the right hand. Using this combination, the access to the device will be much more secure, even compared to normal fingerprint use. Thus, highly secured handheld devices could replace paper based identification documents such as passports.

Direct document scanningDirect document scanning

The display can be used as a scanner. Using larger displays, this obvious benefit makes scanners dispensable and results in geometrically perfect scans.
Data content of mobile phones can easily be shared between two devices by simply placing the screens of both devices on top of each other. Business cards and tickets can easily be scanned also. Beside this, infrared scanning for detection of false documents and banknotes is another useful feature.

Optical high-resolution multi-touch-screen ability

High resolution color scan and multi touch abilityThe display has a build-in feature that allows its use as an optical touch screen. Compared to current technologies, numerous advantages can be identified. The number of processed touch points is almost the same as the number of pixels on the screen, thus creating an absolute multi-touch-screen. The resolution of the touch feature is extremely high and allows not only simple finger touch, but also the use of very fine pens, which opens the possibility to use the screen as a real alternative to paper. Beside this, the technology doesn’t necessarily need a glass cover, because no high temperature processes like Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) coating are involved in its production. It also recognizes the color of the used pen (of course ink-less) and subsequently draws this color.
With large displays, like 60” or 100” ones, the optical multi-touch allows teamwork using the same large display while giving each user the ability to use all of his ten fingers simultaneously.

No fragile glass needed

The technology does not require a glass surface. Thus handheld devices would weigh less and would no longer be fragile. Large devices >60” could be used horizontally on a table. There would be no need for high technology glass which means lower production costs.

Color calibrated scanning

Color calibrated scanningThis very useful feature allows the determination of the exact color of the scanned object. Among others, this feature permits determining the color of clothes, shoes, etc. and can thus be used to compare it to the color of articles sold online or to articles the user finds in stores in the city. The user could build his own color database and buy adequate clothes with less risk of colors not matching.
This feature can also determine the color of scanned documents and detect counterfeit documents or banknotes.

Direct optical high security communication

Direct high security communicationThis feature increases the high security benefit. Placing a display on another display could start a secured optical data connection using numerous optical senders and receivers. The data cannot be intercepted and falsified. The communication is in real time. Furthermore, the device can even be used at airport terminals for passport verification. No signals are leaving the secure connection.

Individual auto calibration avoids aging of OLEDs

The color scan by each display pixel determines the actual color of the OLEDs, by sending a uniform grey image. The color deviation can be corrected. This allows the use of cheap OLED technology with auto calibration.

Health check
ScanningDisplay_EKG_150

The new device has the capability to monitor the health by measuring the pulse and the oxygen saturation of the blood. Beside this, the feature to detect oxygenated blood is a high anti spoof method for the fingerprint scanning as well.

Technologies used are available today

The new display uses a certain combination of technologies available today. This is a benefit for its implementation and its time to market.

Cheaper mass production

The display with in-screen fingerprint scanner is based on minor changes of the actual display technology, that have no consequence to the costs of the display. Thus, there is no need of an integrated biometrical scanner, such as a second camera for face-id or a separate fingerprint scanner. Furthermore, the technology has multi-touch capability. Consequently, the displays could be made of plastic instead of hardened glass and do not necessarily need ITO for multi-touch. .

The patented new kind of display is first of all a display with in-screen fingerprint ability. The combination of its (biometrical) features changes the way we use computers and mobile devices and increases the security while using them. Our world will be more secure and easier to use. Remembering long and difficult passwords is now obsolete. Also, travel documents could be replaced completely. Accessing the door at home or the office can look different, having a comfortable, extremely secure way to authenticate ourselves*.

Using in-symbol fingerprint authentication integrates the login security of a device to the login security of a specific app. The way is now open for working in teams on large in-screen fingerprint displays, each person with his own permissions for different or same apps. The secure-access shifts from the used computer to the used application.

Our display with in-screen fingerprint is a further development of our patented fiber optic fingerprint technology. We have only eliminated the need of the fiber optic, obtaining a cheaper and more comfortable way of scanning fingerprints. The new patent opens the door to a lot more applications and features as outlined above.

* Using the fingerprint of 4 fingers at once, increases the security a billion times compared to face-id or single fingerprint.
